Here are Inside Bainbridge recommendations for the weekend of July 29-31:

1. Spend Time Outside

Then, either in addition to or in conjunction with #1, consider these other great events:

2. Winslow Annual Sidewalk Sale

When: Saturday and Sunday, July 30 and 31

Where: Downtown

Why:

  • Great deals.
  • Poured sidewalks, nearly finished roads.
  • Businesses that need your patronage still hanging on.

3. Willy Wonka Junior at BPA

When: Friday, July 29, at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, July 30, at 3:00 and 7:00 p.m.
Where: Bainbridge Performing Arts, 200 Madison Ave. N.
Why:

  • Oompa Loompas.
  • Roald Dahl: fun and odd and always funnily disturbing.
  • The performers, all kids, are part of the BPA Theatre School. Each role is cast twice, and each cast gets to perform twice.
  • Great music, great story. This is a stage adaptation with the songs from the film.

Hank Williams and Patsy Cline4. Hank Williams/Patsy Cline Tribute

When: Saturday, July 30, 5–10 p.m.
Where: Yeomalt Cabin, 900 Park Ave.
Why:

  • It benefits the Housing Resources Board.
  • Supper is available from 5–9 p.m., grilled by Roosters Café.
  • Local bands play your favorite Hank and Patsy tunes.

For more information visit musiccommunityresources.com or call 842-1087.

5. Bluegrass Mini-Fest at Bloedel

When: Sunday, July 31, 1-5 p.m.
Where: Bloedel Reserve
Why:

  • The regular Battle Point Park Bluegrass festival didn’t happen this year, so this is a smaller substitute. You still get the music and the lawn, but in this case the lawn is a little fancier.
  • Three bands: The Tallboys, Deadwood Revival, and Runaway Train.
  • Auntmama will emcee.

History Comes Alive Website Poster6. “History Comes Alive” Family Festival

When: Friday, July 29, 1-4 p.m.
Where: Bainbridge History Museum grounds, 215 Ericksen Ave.
Why:

  • Pioneer arts and crafts that were used to sustain families of native tradition, homesteaders, mill workers, and fishermen.
  • Hands-on activities for the whole family.

For more information, call the museum at 842-2773.

And for something off the Island:

7. Silverdale Whaling Days

When: Friday, July 29th, through Sunday, July 31st
Where: Downtown Silverdale
Why:

  • No whales are injured.
  • Fireworks.
  • Rotary Pancake Breakfast.
  • Musical entertainment.
  • Street Fair.
  • Whale of a Run.
  • The Dyes Inlet Dash 2011 (canoe race).
  • Parade.
